FAQs

Find answers to common questions about our gymnastics programmes and enrolment process.

What gymnastics programmes does Xpressions Gymnastics offer?

Xpressions Gymnastics offers pre-school gymnastics, recreational gymnastics, boys gymnastics, tumble and tramp classes, competitive squads and free-play gymnastics. Programmes are designed to help children build confidence, coordination, strength, flexibility and a love of movement.

What age can my child start gymnastics?

Children can start with pre-school gymnastics from age 2. Recreational gymnastics is available for school-aged children, with classes grouped by age, including 6-7 years, 8-11 years and 12+. Competitive squad options are available for suitable gymnasts aged 8-15.

What if my child is new to gymnastics?

We love welcoming new gymnasts! Our classes are designed to help children build confidence and skills at their own pace in a supportive, friendly and welcoming environment. Our coaches are trained to support newcomers and ensure a positive experience.

Which gymnastics class is best for my child?

If your child is new to gymnastics, recreational gymnastics is usually the best place to start. Pre-school gymnastics is suited to children aged 2-5, tumble and tramp is ideal for children who enjoy floor skills and trampoline work, and boys gymnastics focuses on male apparatus skills. A trial is the best way to find the right fit.

Where are the gymnastics classes held?

Xpressions Gymnastics runs classes at Hobsonville and Kumeu. Some programmes are available at both centres, while others are specific to Hobsonville. Check the programme details before enrolling or contact the team if you are unsure which location is right for your child.

Can my child try a class before enrolling?

Yes. You can book a trial session to help your child experience the class, meet the coaches and find the programme that best suits their age, confidence and experience level.

What should my child wear to gymnastics?

Children should wear comfortable fitted clothing that allows them to move freely, such as a leotard or fitted shorts and a t-shirt. Long hair should be tied back, jewellery should be avoided, and children should bring a drink bottle. Please ensure your child is barefoot in the gym.

How does my child join a competitive squad?

Competitive squads are for gymnasts who show ability, commitment and readiness for more advanced training. If your child has gymnastics experience and aspires to compete, book a trial or email the Xpressions Gymnastics team so the head coach can assess the right next step.

Are parents allowed to watch classes?

Parents are welcome to observe classes from the designated viewing area upstairs or to wait in our cafe area. The gymnastics hall is reserved exclusively for our young athletes and coaches. We find this reduces the distractions while our athletes work on their skills. We also kindly request that you ensure younger siblings are supervised.
